I am representing my group for Darl. This is what we came up with:
ReplyDelete1. Darl's character and actions reveal that he is sensitive towards others feelings and emotions.
2. From others we learn that Darl is respected and liked.
3. Through Darl's chapters, it is revealed to the reader that Darl is intuitive and educated. For Darl has a strong vocabulary, and has the ability to know what he has not witnessed. He also has the ability of picking up on things that have yet to be said.
4. Darl is the base or trunk of a tree, he is the constant that allows the reader to understand the other character's perspectives more clearly.
5. From Darl we learn that Addie is lonely.
6. The setting and culture of the character's voice, tells us that they are of rural background, of the lowercase, and take the stereotype of country "hick."
7. Our group was unable to associate a major symbol to Darl's character (as revealed to us in the book). Discussing it we came up with the possibility that Darl's name is in itself a symbol, but our expansion on that idea didn't get anywhere.
8.Darl relates back to the main themes of the book... Identity & Sanity.
p.s. Sorry for my horrible grammar errors/spelling/etc. As you can probably tell from the time this was posted... I did this before school.
