1. Ackley is an obvious slob, while Stradlater is secretly a slob that always tries to appear clean.
2. Stradlater wants Holden to write a composition describing a room for him.
3. Stradlater thinks that a good composition is extremely descriptive.
4. Ackley thinks that Howie Coyle is good at basketball because he has the “perfect build” for it.
5. Holden says that Stradlater “didn’t have too bad a sense of humor.”
6. Whenever Jane got a king, she would keep it in the back row and would never move it.
7. Holden tells Stradlater that Jane’s father used to run around the house naked.
8. Holden knows that Stradlater won’t mention him being kicked out because Stradlater wasn’t interested in that.

Chapter 1
ReplyDelete1. Holden Caulfield is the protagonist. He is an “angsty “, emo, Disney stock teenager who hates life. That’s him completely. The whiniest kid ever.
2. D.B is Caulfield’s brother, and a supposed “sellout” as he is a Hollywood contributor. Caulfield believes him to be a “cop-out” and a faker who is ruining literature.
3. He doesn’t try very hard but blames the school more than himself and is forbidden to return. As Walter White said “Apply Yourself!” which Holden Caulfield has neglected to do.
4. Holden has little to no interest in the game. His viewing is more symbolic than attentive, as it is his last farewell to Pencey Prep.
5. The headmasters daughter, and she doesn’t praise her father which appeals to Holden, despite the fact that she is not very pretty.
6. He is the old history teacher who is ill, and Holden goes to visit. He visited because Mr. Spencer showed affection towards him.
7. Because Mr. Spencer was one of the teachers who failed him.
8. He does not like the other students at Pencey Prep.
9. Polo was very popular among the upper-class, white male.
10. Holden blames the school mainly for his failure as a pupil, though he clearly did not apply himself.

3. Holden agree's with him. He also says that the only people who play and enjoy the game are the ones who are successful and are "winning"
4. He said he technically had gone to 4 schools, but had quit one of them.
5. Holden agreed with the statement that he had "Grand" parents. But he hates the word grand because it is "extravagant"
6.He didnt want the teacher to regret giving him a bad grade. He wrote a letter so he would know he didnt actually know anything history related.

1. A beat-up Navajo blanket he'd bought in Yellowstone off of a Native American.
2. Dr. Thurmer said that life is a game and that you should play by the rules.
3. Holden doesn't agree with what Dr. Thurmer is saying. He says is only a game when you're rich and famous, when you have something to lose. It's not a game for anyone else.
4. No, Holden didn't flunk out of Elkton Hills. He just quit. He was "surrounded by phonies".
5. He hates the words "grand". He says he wants to puke every time he hears it because it is so phony.
6. Holden wanted to tell Mr. Spencer not to feel bad about flunking him, because he knew he should be flunked (or was worthy of flunking.)
7. He was thinking about the lagoon at Central Park and was wondering where all the ducks went when the lagoon got icy in the winter.
8. He was surrounded by phonies and was sick of it, especially when Mr. Haas, the headmaster was only talking to the nice-looking, wealthier parents and very little with the unattractive parents.
9. He had equipment in the gym that he had to pick up.
10. He told him not to worry, because he was just going through a "phase", that everyone goes through phases at his age.

1. Ossenberger is the Pencey alumni who Holden's dorm is named after.
2. Ossenberger's speech consisted of his success and how religion helped him, and how it can positively impact the students in Pencey.
