    Chapter 4:

    1. Ackley is an obvious slob, while Stradlater is secretly a slob that always tries to appear clean.
    2. Stradlater wants Holden to write a composition describing a room for him.
    3. Stradlater thinks that a good composition is extremely descriptive.
    4. Ackley thinks that Howie Coyle is good at basketball because he has the “perfect build” for it.
    5. Holden says that Stradlater “didn’t have too bad a sense of humor.”
    6. Whenever Jane got a king, she would keep it in the back row and would never move it.
    7. Holden tells Stradlater that Jane’s father used to run around the house naked.
    8. Holden knows that Stradlater won’t mention him being kicked out because Stradlater wasn’t interested in that.
    9. Stradlater wants the composition to be decent and “descriptive as hell,” but not punctuated correctly.
    10. Holden says that Ackley “took my mind off the other stuff.”

    • Because the parents come on Sundays and when they ask their sons “What did you have for dinner last night?” they can say “Steak!”

    • They don’t go to the movies because they already saw the movie.

    • He writes about the baseball glove of his little brother Allie.

    • When he was on the outfield he would get bored and read the poems.

    • He got leukemia.

    • He spent the night in the garage and punched all the windows.

    • He feels sorry for him because nobody likes him and he has a lot of issues with his appearance.

  4. Chapter 1

    1. Holden Caulfield is the protagonist. He is an “angsty “, emo, Disney stock teenager who hates life. That’s him completely. The whiniest kid ever.
    2. D.B is Caulfield’s brother, and a supposed “sellout” as he is a Hollywood contributor. Caulfield believes him to be a “cop-out” and a faker who is ruining literature.
    3. He doesn’t try very hard but blames the school more than himself and is forbidden to return. As Walter White said “Apply Yourself!” which Holden Caulfield has neglected to do.
    4. Holden has little to no interest in the game. His viewing is more symbolic than attentive, as it is his last farewell to Pencey Prep.
    5. The headmasters daughter, and she doesn’t praise her father which appeals to Holden, despite the fact that she is not very pretty.
    6. He is the old history teacher who is ill, and Holden goes to visit. He visited because Mr. Spencer showed affection towards him.
    7. Because Mr. Spencer was one of the teachers who failed him.
    8. He does not like the other students at Pencey Prep.
    9. Polo was very popular among the upper-class, white male.
    10. Holden blames the school mainly for his failure as a pupil, though he clearly did not apply himself.

  5. 1. A Navaho blanket. It was old, and torn up.
    2. He told Holden that life was a game. Also he told him that you should play life by the rules.
    3. Holden agree's with him. He also says that the only people who play and enjoy the game are the ones who are successful and are "winning"
    4. He said he technically had gone to 4 schools, but had quit one of them.
    5. Holden agreed with the statement that he had "Grand" parents. But he hates the word grand because it is "extravagant"
    6.He didnt want the teacher to regret giving him a bad grade. He wrote a letter so he would know he didnt actually know anything history related.
    7. He was thinking about where the ducks would go when the pond is frozen
    8. He said that in that school he was surrounded by "phonies"
    9. Holden said he left his stuff at the gym
    10. Holden told him that everybody goes through phases and he was just going through his own

    Chapter 1

    1. Holden is a teenager is has failed out of a few schools.
    2. D.B. is Holden's brother and a successful writer in Hollywood.
    3. According to Holden, Pency's students aren't as smart as advertised.
    4. Holden doesn't want to be surrounded by the exited "phonies" in the audience.
    5. Selma Thurmer is an honest girl who was always nice to Holden.
    6. Mr. Spencer called him because he knew Holden was going to be leaving, and Holden felt sorry for him.
    7. So he could feel like he missed something about Pency, that it wasn't a complete waste of time.
    8. "Dumb, Phonies, and thieves."
    10. No, Holden blames himself for the most part.

    Chapter 4
    1) Ackley is an obvious slob where as Stradlater is a secret one
    2) he asks him to write a composition
    3) something very descriptive
    4) he has the right build for the sport
    5) its a great sense of humor
    6) she kept all her kings in the back line and never moved them
    7) her step dad ran around the house naked while she was around
    8) because he is trust worthy and hes not that interested
    9) good but not his best because his teacher knows they are roommates
    10) so he could stop thinking about jane and all that stuff

  8. 1. Ossenburger is the man who the dormitory the main character lives in is named after. He is wealthy and a Pencey graduate.
    2. Ossenburger gave the boys of Pencey a speach about the benefit of praying to God.
    3. Holden's favorite authors are his brother and Ring Lardner.
    4. Holden knows that a book he read was outstanding when he wants to be friends with the author.
    5. When Ackley visits Holden he picks up his personal belongings and looks at them.
    6. Holden finds it annoying when Ackley goes through is personal belongings.
    7. Ackley thinks that someone getting hit on the head with a rock qualifies as funny.
    8. Stradlater told Ackley that he needed to improve his oral hygiene.
    9. Holden says that Stradlater wasn't trying to make fun of Ackley, but that he was just trying to help him.
    10. He wanted to borrow his houndstooth jacket.

    Chapter 2
    1. A beat-up Navajo blanket he'd bought in Yellowstone off of a Native American.
    2. Dr. Thurmer said that life is a game and that you should play by the rules.
    3. Holden doesn't agree with what Dr. Thurmer is saying. He says is only a game when you're rich and famous, when you have something to lose. It's not a game for anyone else.
    4. No, Holden didn't flunk out of Elkton Hills. He just quit. He was "surrounded by phonies".
    5. He hates the words "grand". He says he wants to puke every time he hears it because it is so phony.
    6. Holden wanted to tell Mr. Spencer not to feel bad about flunking him, because he knew he should be flunked (or was worthy of flunking.)
    7. He was thinking about the lagoon at Central Park and was wondering where all the ducks went when the lagoon got icy in the winter.
    8. He was surrounded by phonies and was sick of it, especially when Mr. Haas, the headmaster was only talking to the nice-looking, wealthier parents and very little with the unattractive parents.
    9. He had equipment in the gym that he had to pick up.
    10. He told him not to worry, because he was just going through a "phase", that everyone goes through phases at his age.

    Chapter 4 Things

    1. Stradlater is a "secret slob" and Ackley is just outwardly filthy.
    2. to write a descriptive paper about a house or room.
    3. putting commas in the right place.
    4. he has the perfect build for basketball.

    7. her dad is an alcoholic and would run around the house naked.

    Maya and Dayanara

    1.Because when parents come to visit on sundays, when they ask what they ate the other night they can say steak. That means that they are getting "fed well"
    2.he always wants to know who else is coming
    3. Ackley and Brossard already saw the movie
    4. because they are always laughing obnoxiously
    5. Bridge
    6. he writes about Allie writing poems in his baseball glove with green ink
    7. when he was in the outfield he would get bored and read the poems
    8. Allie died of lukemia
    9. he was in the garage breaking things with his bare hands
    10. he feels bad because he feels like he is an outcast because he has body appearance issues and no one understands him

    3.) The school is advertised as a very prestigious school, however it is filled with people who dont know a whole lot.

    Chapter 3:

    1. Ossenberger is the Pencey alumni who Holden's dorm is named after.

    2. Ossenberger's speech consisted of his success and how religion helped him, and how it can positively impact the students in Pencey.

    3. Holden's brother D.B., and Ring Lardner.

    4. Holden appreciates books that are funny every once and a while, and that would make him want to be friends with the author.

    5. Ackley would usually visit Holden unannounced. He would walk around being intrusive, picking up Holden's personal items.

    6. Holden hated how Ackley constantly barged in and fooled around with his things. He found him to be quite a nuisance.

    7. When Stradlater's tennis racket fell on Holden's head after opening his closet.

    8. He disliked him because he made a joke about how often Ackley brushes his teeth.

    9. Holden says that Stradlater is at least kind and always says hello to everybody.

    10. Stradlater wanted to borrow Holden's hound's-tooth jacket.
